Mentoring Volunteers

At StudentMentors.org, we have made it our mission to connect students to students for some of the most comprehensive and effective peer-to-peer mentoring available online. We are committed to bringing together students of diverse backgrounds who are all working toward the same goal - success. We have found that, when properly matched, students are much more likely to listen to other students, as our mentors have recently been where our students are. This ability to relate to students not only on an academic level but a personal one gives our students a head start in their studies.

How Do I Become a Mentor?

The mentors at StudentMentors.org are vetted by our staff of experienced educators and subsequently they are matched to our students year-round. As such, becoming a mentor is a process, but not a difficult one.

The first thing you should be aware of is that you have to have been successful in whatever subject you would like to become a mentor. Of course, we want the best candidates, so if you barely squeaked by in one subject, consider applying for another. Secondly, our application includes a short essay wherein you'll tell us what mentoring means to you and what you think you have to offer to a mentee. Finally, we'll interview you to find out how you can best serve our students.

Staff

Naomi Bullens - Founder & Director - Director Bullens founded StudentMentors.org after working with students for over a decade and finding that, for many students, peer-to-peer mentorship was at least as effective as traditional education. It was at this point she founded StudentMentors.org for her small group of students, though later she would realize the larger need for student mentors and expanded nationwide to the SM we know today!

McKenzie White - Mentor Coordinator - Ms. White has been with StudentMentors.org nearly since day one. Realizing the need for such a service, and being a co-worker of Director Bullens at the time, Ms. White was the first employee of SM and is, as such, it's most experienced. Over the years, Ms. White's knowledge and expertise have been invaluable to the development of our service.

Sabrina Burton - Hiring Manager - Mrs. Burton is often the first person prospective mentors speak with, and her inviting demeanor and dogged determination to fulfill her role to the best of her ability every day makes her one of the most valued people at StudentMentors.org. Without her, we would not be able to provide the high-quality service that sets us apart from similar mentoring sites.
